Tips For Newbie Success March 9th, 2009

Robin Rowe

If you are a newbie to the Internet Marketing Industry thank your lucky stars! You are in the right place at the right time! Then get ready to do alot of work! Everybody has to start somewhere and we were all newbies at one time.

It sounds like easy money to hear many out there telling their story. Truth is it takes focus, planning, creativity, perseverance and a huge learning curve. The problem is that the learning curve doesn’t put any money in your pocket. Most of the time it costs something to learn what you need. Even if you find info ‘for free’ it always costs you something one way or another. Don’t be discouraged. I’m also a new marketer but I’d like to share with other newbies out there what I’ve learned so far.

Like I said, Thank Your Lucky Stars. This is the single most important thing you will do this year. Be your own boss and work your own hours. Be the person who will control his or her financial future. Get paid what you are worth. Leave a legacy of whatever you choose. We all have individual reasons for wanting to work from home. Basically the reasons all come down to the same thing. WHY? What is it that drives you to undertake the marketing industry. It certainly is the future. The possibilities are mind-boggling. There really is no limit to what you could do with your efforts. This is the right place to be.

So far this is what I’ve learned about being a newbie internet businessperson. I hope this helps you push forward from wherever you are in your internet career.

1).Don’t Re-invent The Wheel.

Find successful people and do what they do. If they have a special area of expertise then try to emulate their behavior. Don’t try to be them. Just be yourself and do what they do.

2).Learn All You Can Everyday.

Always strive to absorb information around you like a sponge. We newbies know we have alot to learn, but the more you learn the more you realize how little you really do know. Don’t get overwhelmed. Don’t give up because you feel there is too much to know. The Internet is just so vast its impossible to know even 1/1000th of anything ,but  keep learning every day. Focus your energy on what you need to know, seek out the experts, learn it, TAKE ACTION on it  and move to your next lesson.

3).Invest In Yourself.

Develop as a person who is one with the forces of the universe. Take time for personal development, reflection and re-evaluation every day.

4).Make A Plan.

Work your business like a business. Sure it’s great to work in your ‘jammies’, but it is not good to view what you are doing as a hobby or a ‘try and see’ venture. Put serious focus on your business plan. If you don’t have a business plan, stop right now and make one. Do you think the local business’ in your area just opened the doors with a ‘try and see’ plan? Internet business’ are really no different than the ones on Main St.

5).Set Goals For You And Your Business.

Take some time to develop goal planning. Don’ be afraid to set goals. If you fall short of your goal, don’t beat yourself up over it, but rather look back and see what you did accomplish, re-evaluate and set new goals for the future. Set daily, weekly, monthly and annual goals. Keep them in front of you, look at them often, do your best to meet them, as soon as they are met, re-evaluate and make new ones. Every goal that is met will give you more of what you want for yourself as a person.

6).Schedule Your Time In Blocks.

There are different tasks needed everyday to make your business successful. Determine what those tasks are and give yourself a certain time frame to work those things accordingly. For example; Don’t spend all day checking emails. Schedule certain times to check and/or answer emails and stick to a strict time limit- – say 20 minutes in the morning sometime and then perhaps another 20 minutes sometime later in the day. It is very easy to get caught up in the game I like to call ‘chasing the links’. If it’s time to work-work! When its time to play-then surf! If you are like me, it will take you a while to ‘get the eye’ for which mail to make a priority, but after a while you will get your mail down to just those time frames. A good starting point would be to work for 50 minutes and break for 10 minutes.

7).Schedule Your Family And Social Time.

Having the luxury of working from home is great, but don’t ignore your family while starting up. Make a workable schedule for yourself. Give yourself time off when it’s needed. For example; I love sports so I schedule my time off around the games I want to watch.
You can’t ignore the people around you in your every day life. That is just asking for trouble. The people in your life will resent your business instead of supporting you in it. By spending quality time with those you care about the business will be fresh to you when you get back to work. It will be easier to focus, and you will get more done in a shorter time span.Your family won’t resent the time you spend on your business. Find out what schedule works for you. After all isn’t that why we all are here… to have the freedom of working for ourselves on our own schedule ?

8).Eat Healthy And Get Exercise Every Day.

Don’t become a red-eyed hunchback over a computer keyboard. Eat healthy and drink lots of water for optimum brain function. Exercise and get those lungs full of oxygen. Get that heart rate up there every day. Whatever works for you. Exercise can be many things. Example; I hate going to a gym so I get up in the morning and after my coffee I do 10 min. of dance aerobics. Ten minutes is all it takes to get your heart and lung rate up there. I’m pumped and ready for my day. Another 10 min. in the afternoon when I start getting that distracted feeling. The exercise keeps my energy up and my attention focused. Eat a nutritious diet and give your body fuel to work with, your car won’t run without gas and your body won’t be at optimum performance without  a healthy nutritious diet.

9).Celebrate!

Don’t wait until your first sale to celebrate. Try to celebrate all your accomplishments. As newbies we have many hurdles to overcome and anytime you put any hurdle behind you give yourself a big old ‘high five’. It  could be as simple as learning to cut and paste, if that was a challenge for you. Give yourself credit every day for the things you did accomplish, and don’t punish yourself for the things you didn’t do!

10). Be Grateful.

Look around you everyday and take notice of the things in your life you are grateful for. It could be your health, it could be your family, it could be the beautiful weather around you. Whatever you have in your life that makes you happy be grateful.

11).Don’t Loose Focus Of Your ‘Why’.

There is a reason you decided to become an online entrepreneur. Everyone’s ‘why’ is different. Hold on to that vision and it will get you through those times that seem bleak. Don’t surrender your dreams under any circumstances. Make a vision board. In fact make TWO. One in your work area that you see while you are working. Make another on your computer that you can pull up any time you need some inspiration. If you have a laptop you may not be working in the same area all the time. It helps to have that Dreamboard a click away so you can re-focus on your ‘why’.

12).Step Out Of Your ‘Comfort Zone’.

Be willing to do what the successful folks do. If it makes you uncomfortable…DO IT ANYWAY!  If you are afraid, face your fears,  reach inside yourself for courage, and  ‘take the bull by the horns’. Chances are it will not kill you. You will survive and be a better person for it.

13).Surround Yourself With Like-minded People.

Pull from the energy of people that have the same goals and vision of the future as you have. Seek the knowledge and attitude those people possess. Don’t let the people around you steal your dream you have for yourself. If your friends and family are not supporting your business efforts- turn a deaf ear to their negative energy. I wouldn’t say write them out of your life, but don’t let them suck your positive energy from you by giving you ‘guff’ about what you have planned for your future success.

14).Remember Everyone Was A Newbie At One Time.

Once you start to take action you are no longer a newbie but a work in progress. It is hard to imagine some of the great internet marketers as newbies, but they did not take a magic pill to become great. They earned it and aspired to it. Most of them worked hard, even failed, but learned from successful people and took action toward their success.

15). Give Back.

Give of yourself without want and you will have a life of abundance. Others who are less fortunate, either by money, time or knowledge can benefit from your gracious offerings, and your life will be richer for it.

16). Re-invent Yourself.

If you have never been a marketer before, you will make new habits and create the mindset of a marketer. It is all behavior that can be learned. You can transform your life and yourself into something of value by doing what successful marketers do and adopting their mindset.

17). Don’t Gauge Your Own Personal Success By The Success of Others.

If you read a testimonial of someone who made a ‘kah-zillion’ dollars in two weeks, don’t think you will be able to have the same results(although it may be possible) as a brand new marketer. Perhaps that person had ten or twelve years of experience behind them when they found their success in their present opportunity. Don’t be discouraged if you are not getting those same results. Everyone has to pay their dues.

18).Be Consistent And Persistent In Your Efforts.

Once you’ve made your business plan and set your goals, do whatever it takes on a regular basis to follow the plan you have chosen to monetize your efforts. Of course learning new things and educating yourself in areas you lack knowledge or skills will not put money in your pocket immediately, but it will make you a better, more savvy marketer, and you will be  more successful in the industry in the long run. Be consistent with both your education and your action. It may seem like a long journey, but the end results will be well worth the extra mile.

I know some of these things may overlap, but each is a little different idea for you to wrap yourself around. I hope this helps you to push forward and reward yourself with a successful online marketing business. The most important thing to take away is not to give up until you have done everything in your power to achieve your goals. Do whatever it takes to make your new business successful and…Have Fun!

Feeling Overwhelmed? Seven Tips To Help Sift Through The Information Overload March 2nd, 2009

Robin Rowe

When starting out in the Marketing Industry we can feel overwhelmed with all the hype and information coming at us from all angles. I know I felt as though I was drowning in a barrage of info. I didn’t think I was ever going to see my way through to the end result I was seeking. I thought I’d share some tips that helped me.

1-Take a Deep Breath

Relax and enjoy what you’re doing. Realize you are on the verge of becoming independent. You will no longer have to answer to anyone else. Your income will be whatever you choose to make it. You will have freedom to spend your time as you like.

2-Organize Your Information

Collect all the e-books, software, newsletters, training sites, personal development information and tools relevant to your project and put them together in one place so you can see exactly what you have accumulated so far. Go over all this in a methodical way and decide whether you need all of it , some of it , or none of it. If there are key pieces of information missing do your best to find what you need for the day-to-day business of marketing. Organize into like folders. For example, put all your software and e-books you use when you do your keyword research into one folder. Put all the sites you need to visit daily in another folder, etc.

3-Make A Plan/Set Goals

Decide which goals are most important to achieve. Give yourself a date to realistically complete your goal. After your goals are set concentrate on a plan to achieve those goals. Decide which tasks need to be done first to achieve the results you would like to have. Be realistic in your time frames if you have learning to do and find out from experts. You can find anything you need with search engines.

4-Concentrate On One Area At a Time

Pick a task and get to it. Concentrate on one thing until you feel comfortable with yourself in knowing that particular area and then implement what you’ve learned and move onto the next area you feel needs to be addressed. Jumping around from this to that will get you nowhere fast. Don’t let yourself be distracted with every e-mail you find in your inbox. Simply put the blinders on and finish what you’ve started. See it through.

5-Take Action/Implement

Once you learn, take action. Don’t worry about getting it perfect just do it. You can always tweak it later. The more you do the better you will become.

6-Use Your Failures To Learn

Just as it was in school, learn from your mistakes. Think of learning internet marketing like attending college. You don’t expect to get your degree in two or three months, so why would you think you will learn internet marketing in that short time. Invest in yourself by taking the time to  learn what you need to know. Think back to one of those exams you did not do so well with. It wasn’t the end of the world…life went on. You got your exam back and the first thing you did was to look at the answers you got wrong. Then you asked what the correct answer was for those questions. You used your failures to learn. Internet marketing is no different. Draw on your mistakes to learn and go forward. Sometimes those mistakes will give us our best understanding of what is correct.

7-View The Process As An Investment In Your Education

The internet is a fascinating place. Often we can find what we need for free. If you have to spend money, think of it as an investment in your education, much like college tuition. Don’t be afraid to spend a few bucks on quality software or information that will further your efforts. I realize sometimes our budgets are tight so be diligent in a budget, but don’t skimp on bettering yourself as a marketer, and seek out quality products. Marketing-Not Advertising is where the real money is. Becoming a marketer is a life skill that will reward you for a lifetime of financial freedom so take the time as well as the money to invest in yourself.

If you are lucky you can find a unique business opportunity online with training and support which will teach you as you make money and develop into a top internet marketer. I would suggest taking the time to find just that type of business which has training and support already in place for you to use as you grow your business. Find a company that cares more about your success than just taking your money. Lastly, look for a stable established business plan in place that is geared for future growth and have fun!
